Why Toronto Has No Chance

April 3, 2008 @ 11:59

Toronto has no chance because of the twisted logic that's applied to what's happening in the city and the misguided criticism of a man that although covered with a gruff and basic veneer is really the only person that's preventing the once greatest city in Canada from slipping totally into the abyss.

I truly admire my friend Mike Boon, but Boon is so emblematic of what's wrong with the Toronto. Just go to his website and search Rob Ford and you'll see what I mean.

While the mayor and his NDP council systematically ruin the city, Boon prefers to put his focus on Rob Ford and criticize his so called political incorrectness and his personality.

Mike is like so many other bleeding heart Liberals and socialists in Toronto. They like to jump all over the Ford for his brash personality and some of his outrageous statements, while ignoring the real problems.

If it wasn't for Rob Ford, so much of the incompetent, inept and wasteful policies at Toronto city hall would go unchecked. If it wasn't for Rob Ford, the city of Toronto might find itself in worse shape than it already is.

While David Miller and his band of yahoos enact policies that push the city in reverse, Mike Boon and his like prefer to worry about whether someone is called an Oriental instead of an Asian.

While the David Miller regime mismanages tax dollars, and wastes money on free lunches, free trips and golf memberships, people like Boon prefer to focus on the fact that Rob Ford was overheard using profanity at a hockey game.

While David Miller continues to wage war against the hard working, productive and progressive people of Toronto, the loonie left would rather talk about Rob Ford's statements on cyclists.

It's interesting to note that last week; right on the heels of Ford's domestic problems, city council passed a motion that made him apologize for the Oriental comment.

It was political opportunism at its best. Kicking a guy while he was down, especially when the irony of the situation was that most Asians didn't give a damn that they have been referred to as Oriental.

Like most Torontonians, the Asian community was too busy earning a living and going about their business to worry about a "word." Like most minorities, they don't need guilt ridden Liberal white people to think for them.

I'm totally mystified by the mind set of so many in Toronto.

Look around, you're city is in big trouble and it's in big trouble because of the delusional freak you've elected not once, but twice.

Meanwhile, you want to jump all over the one guy who's got enough balls to stand up and expose Toronto's dangerous council for what it is.

Sure, Rob Ford might not be the most eloquent guy, but believe me, he's the least of your problems and would make twice the mayor that David Miller is.

For Christs sake, wake up.

Amen Brother,

I can't remember which councillor said it and I'm paraphrasing "Mayor Miller is the best Mayor Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Vaughn, Newmarket, Whitby and Oshawa could have."

Couldn't agree more with you Freddie.

However, I am sure, quite a few of your bloggers will most likely bash Rob Ford (like the last time when you defended him in an article) and calling him an idiot for some of the admittingly dumb things he has done in the past and sure will do in the future.

However, people, look at the whole package, he wants to trim the fat at city hall and exposes a lot of borderline monkey business practises. His heart is in the right place and quite obviously he hates bureaucratic waste. He's also by far the most honest guy down at city hall.

But as the old saying goes Nice (read honest) guys finish last.

Amen Freddie!

I pretty such said wrote the same thing on T-Mike and Humble’s blog – they both focused on the antics of Ford instead of the good that he accomplishes.

I once wrote on T-Mike’s blog “..you’re so Toronto….” He of course took it as a complement. As the saying goes, ignorance is bliss.

There are better ways to accomplish your goals than using bullying tactics and poor remarks. Rob Ford may have done some good things, and Miller is a terrible mayor. These facts are true. But you can't measure Rob Ford's character on accomplishments alone. If you did that then we would be praising Barry Bonds as a person. Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens are both incredible baseball players that accomplished a lot in their sport. But they are both douchebags.
Rob Ford does some good things but he is a jerk. Why is it wrong to to be a critic of the person?

And exactly why is Rob Ford a Jerk??? Foe speaking his mind, exposing waste, running a successful business?? Please explain. I assume you are from Toronto.

I see what you're saying, Fred, but I don't agree. Yes, Miller is a terrible mayor. Yes, Rob Ford has a knack for getting things done, but that doesn't mean he's mayor material. You don't have to be a doctor to sense this guy needs serious medical attention. He's like a land-mine waiting to be stepped on. At the very least, we don't want another mayor whose ignorance about Africa makes headlines around the world.

Phil - Rob Ford is a jerk because he has the potential to be so much more than an obnoxious boor if he'd only learn some tact and self-control. Sorry, but the reality is people don't respect elected officials who pull antics like getting drunk and belligerent in a public venue. He's depriving the city of an effective leader by continually stuffing his foot in his mouth. I say that's being a jerk.

Rob Ford isn't on council to teach a course about social graces, he's on council to get things done for his ward as best as he's able to do - and he's doing it with great success.

I don't care if he swore at a Leafs game or anything else (non-criminal), as long as he's hitting the nail on the head...just like I couldn't care less that Joe Carter was a jerk in public - he hit the ball over the fence and that's what he was hired for...

Let's keep our eyes on the target, and criticize our hired guns only when they're shooting blanks.

Mike,
I don't care that he got drunk & belligerent at a public venue, though he should show better judgment. What I have a problem with is when he was asked about it he denied it at first.
Had he fessed up and apologized right away I might cut him some slack. By denying he was even at the hockey game and hopping to get away with it, he show's that he can be self serving just like any other politician.

On the other hand, it's good to see someone holding the Mayor and his rat pack accountable, and exposing their flaws.

I really can't believe some of the comments about Ford on this blog.

I really don't care to much for his positions on council just as I do not care much for any other politician's positions because at the end of the day, it is all just pandering to the public until the political position is cemented.

Fact # 1. We know Ford is a liar who will deny any inappropriate behavious (such as public drunkenness) until caught in the vise of public scrutiny.

What is likely a worse reflection of Ford's character is his dismissal of his domestic problems as being a non even and there being no problems.

Sorry Ford, but when domestic disputes (of which I have had many) reach a point where the spouse feels the need for protection from outside forces whether it be other family members of members of the public service such as the police, (of which I have had none)there is a fucking problem and a real big problem.

Denial gets you nowhere. It only cheapens your character and exposes your underlying beliefs for the world to see.

As a politician, maybe this guy is worth supporting....until (and the fact is we do not know what "until" means "until" it may be too late.

As a human being and a husband, he deserves the trash heap.

One thing we know for sure. Personal proclivities eventually reveal themselves in the public/political spectrum and if that is the case with Ford, GOD help us all.
